We believe in nurturing tamariki well-being, emotional regulation, and self-awareness through intentional learning experiences that promote mindfulness, emotional expression, and connection with nature.
Monday: Yoga & Breathing for Mindfulness
Learning Experience: Yoga & breathing practice
In this learning experience, tamariki will practice simple yoga poses and breathing techniques to help them focus and calm their bodies. This will support emotional regulation by teaching them how to slow down and be mindful of their movements and breath.
Objective: Help tamariki build awareness of their bodies, emotions, and breathing for self-regulation.
Tuesday: Nourish to Flourish
Learning Experience: Healthy eating exploration
In this learning experience, tamariki will learn about healthy foods and nutrition. They’ll engage in preparing a healthy snack, such as a fruit salad, and Kaiako will talk about the importance of different types of food for the body.
Objective: Encourage healthy eating habits and an understanding of nutritious food choices.
Wednesday: Music Therapy with Antonio
Learning Experience: Music therapy with Antonio
Antonio will lead a music therapy session, where tamariki will explore different instruments, sing, and participate in rhythm games and movement. This experience helps tamariki express emotions through music, improve listening skills, and promotes social interaction.
Objective: Use music as a tool for emotional expression, social connection, and sensory exploration.
Thursday: Excursion to Tole Reserve
Learning Experience: Nature Walk at Tole Reserve
Tamariki will embark on an excursion to Tole Reserve, where they will engage in a nature walk, using their five senses to explore the world around them. This experience will encourage curiosity, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to nature as they notice the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and tastes in their environment.
Objective: To encourage sensory exploration and mindfulness by engaging tamariki in using their five senses to observe and connect with nature, fostering curiosity, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of their environment.
Friday: Self-Regulation with the ENGAGE Approach
Learning Experience: Developing tamariki self-regulation skills through intentional play
This learning experience involves playing a selection of familiar tamariki games for up to 30 minutes a day, to develop the emotional, cognitive, and behavioural skills that tamariki need to thrive and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. The ENGAGE Approach focuses on helping tamariki understand their emotions, make mindful choices, and reflect on their actions during play. Kaiako will support tamariki in understanding how their actions affect others, encouraging empathy and positive interactions.
Objective: To support the development of self-regulation, social skills, and emotional awareness through intentional play, guided reflection, and mindful interactions.
